Completed: 2018
Location: Baltimore, MD
We are so excited to be part of the new African Journey exhibit at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. Whole Trees teamed with CRL Designs to create commercial wood shade structures for the Lions and Giraffes and Elephants.
The Lion Exhibit will include round timbers incorporated with steel mesh and glass allowing visitors and intimate interaction with the lions. No touching though!
The Elephant shades reach 25’ into the air and utilize wood timber wrapped steel columns and a round timber roof. This provides the elephants with a break from the sun while allowing the public to view them in their habitat.
The giraffe shade structure is built with branching timbers and a stretched fabric roof. A little escape and rest stop for the giraffes as they traverse the Savannah and interact with the elephants, as they would in the wild.
