WholeTrees co-founder, Roald Gundersen, AIA has been building with small diameter round timber for more than 20 years and has more than 50 structures under roof. When Amelia Baxter met Gundersen, she saw an international market for the use of trees in 21st century construction, and noticed that economic and emotional incentives were drawing national attention to Gundersen’s architecture.
In 2007, Baxter and Gundersen co-founded WholeTrees LLC. Their vision is to take a previously ignored byproduct of sustainably managed forests and engineer cost-efficient, sustainable building structural systems for commercial and residential buildings.
The result provides cost advantage, green benefits and a sensual beauty for its clients, and a restorative business model to help heal the ills of the current-state building shed.
